'You can't: Sky man stunned by what he's just seen regarding Arsenal player at St Mary's
Mikel Arteta will be delighted with his Arsenal players’ first-half performance today.
But the Spanish manager will be a bit disappointed to know that Bukayo Saka is walking a tightrope for the second half at Southampton.
Saka picked up a yellow card on the half-hour mark for a perceived dive in the box at St Mary’s.
However, television replays indicate that although the hosts’ goalkeeper didn’t foul the Arsenal winger per se, it certainly wasn’t an attempt to win a penalty and therefore the booking seems very harsh.
At least, that’s what Alan Smith said live on Sky Sports.
He said [23/10, 2:30pm]: “That’s a big call. I certainly don’t think it’s a dive – there’s a shove there. You can’t book him for that!”
Granit Xhaka slammed home an early opening goal for Arsenal after quite a lot of pressure from the visitors.
The Switzerland international scored in midweek against PSV in the Europa League and he’s certainly added another element to his game this season.
For the most part, the North Londoners dominated this first 45 minutes and that’s why Arteta will be thrilled with his troops’ first-half showing.
But Saka’s yellow card means there’s the potential for a dismissal in the second half and that’s a slight worry, even if he isn’t considered a dangerous or nasty player who’s likely to pick up another.
