Arsenal's forgotten man will be like a new signing for Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta is hoping to welcome a forgotten man back into his Arsenal squad after the World Cup.

Arsenal are going to need their whole squad if they are to forge a Premier League title challenge this season. And Emile Smith Rowe will be like a new signing for Mikel Arteta in the second half of the campaign.

Smith Rowe made four brief substitute appearances at the beginning of the season for the Gunners. But he and the club finally decided to resolve an ongoing groin injury once and for all.

The England international underwent surgery in September to rule him out for several months and end his chances of earning a spot in Gareth Southgate's squad for the World Cup. It is fair to say Arsenal have done well in his absence.

They have only failed to win one Premier League match since, the 1-1 draw at Southampton, and sit top of the table. The Gunners also finished first in their Europa League group with five wins from their six matches.

The 22-year-old was keeping Gabriel Martinelli out of the team and quickly became one of the Premier League's brightest young talents. Jamie Carragher even described Smith Rowe as the best dribbler in England and was excited by his progression.

Injuries have unfortunately been a part of Smith Rowe's career to date. But the decision to undergo a much-needed operation could turn out to be the best thing for him moving forward.

He will be desperate to get back playing again in an Arsenal side who are flourishing under Arteta. And he could be just like a new signing to excite the Emirates faithful.
