Hein's 'calamity goalkeeping' on Arsenal debut allows ex-Gunner Welbeck to score

Arsenal youngster Karl Hein endured a moment to forget on his senior debut, giving away a penalty after slipping against Brighton in the Carabao Cup.

The 20-year-old’s costly slip in the 27th minute led to a penalty that was converted by former Gunner Danny Welbeck.

The experienced striker had been booed by the home fans, but was more than happy to convert from the spot after an error of judgement from the young goalkeeper.

After slipping, Hein came in with a late challenge on Welbeck which saw the 31-year-old brought down in the penalty area, which was described as ‘calamity goalkeeping’ by talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.

The striker slammed home and drew the game level following Eddie Nketiah’s well-taken opener.

Hein is set for a bright future in the game and is regarded as one of the brightest young talents coming through at the Emirates Stadium.

After making five appearances for Reading last term, the Estonian will be hoping for more regular match action as he looks to fulfil his undoubted potential.
