Paul Merson urges Arsenal to sign No.11 Premier League winger
Paul Merson believes that Arsenal could well make a move to add Wilfried Zaha next summer. The London club tried and failed to add a forward to the Spanish manager’s squad before the summer transfer window shut, with the likes of Cody Gakpo and Yeremy Pino linked with moves which never materialised.
Ivory Coast international has scored an excellent 14 PL goals this calendar year, including five during the current campaign, and at 29, he’s in the prime of his career. The Crystal Palace forward, who earns £130,000 per week at Selhurst Park, is out of the deal with the Eagles next summer.
And although Paul Merson can see someone like Arsenal going for him, the Sky Sports pundit believes that Wilfried would be wise to stay put and argued that he simply won’t play as regularly anywhere else as he does with the Eagles.
Paul Merson could well be right in saying the Gunners will be interested and more significantly, the feeling might well be mutual. Everyone knows that Zaha is a lifelong fan of the Gunners and having failed at an elite club already, following a poor spell at Man United, he’ll be desperate to prove himself once again.
Paul Merson said: “I see someone like Arsenal coming in for him if they get into the Champions League but do you go there and risk becoming a bit-part player? I’m just not sure whether the grass is going to be greener for Zaha. He’s playing the best football of his career and there is a reason for that. He needs to sit down and have a big think about his future.”
