Arsenal get response from Barcelona over target ahead of January
Arsenal’s interest in Barcelona star Memphis Depay seems to have an answer already as the club chief gave a response to the reported interest.
Following the injury to Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal may ramp up their transfer pursuit of Depay with the knowledge he could be available in January without Edu needing to part ways with significant funds.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta already confirmed that his team is short and will need to reinforce to add depth if they must continue with the fine form after the World Cup and in the second half of the season.
However, the North London outfit were dealt a blow in their bid to sign Depay following comments made by Barcelona chief Jordi Cruyff on a potential January departure for Depay.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, he said: “Why should we sell Depay in January if it’s difficult to sign new players because of Financial Fair Play? He’s always been a great professional. He can be really helpful.”
With Depay’s contract expiring in June, Cruyff also gave a response to a possible departure at the end of the current campaign, stating: “We will see in the next months.
Meanwhile, Arsenal also have the option of Shakhtar Donetsk winger Myhaylo Mudryk.
